Sukhbir Badal will not contest the lok sabha elections?

Shiromani Akali Dal chief sukhbir singh badal said on monday that he will not contest the upcoming lok sabha elections. He said this after a day-long meeting with party leaders, district party presidents, and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) members here to discuss candidates for the state parliamentary seats.

During a conversation with the media, when he was asked whether he would contest the parliamentary elections, sukhbir singh badal, mp from the Ferozepur seat, said, "I am not contesting the elections." In response to another question, he said that discussions are going on on the names of possible candidates. The names of the candidates will be announced after the completion of the counseling process. In response to another question, he said that we held a meeting for six parliamentary seats in which district presidents, constituency in-charges, and SGPC members were called, and their opinions were taken. He can contest elections from Amritsar, Sangrur, and Jalandhar. party sources said that tickets are likely to be given to former ministers Anil Joshi, Parminder Singh Dhindsa, and former mla Pawan Kumar Tinu from Amritsar, Sangrur, and Jalandhar.

Last month, the bjp had announced that it would contest the upcoming lok sabha elections in punjab on its own, signaling the end of talks for a re-alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal. At that time Badal had said that principles are more important for his party than the numbers game.

Why did Akali Dal separate from NDA?

Shiromani Akali Dal had walked out of the BJP-led nda in september 2020 over agricultural laws. Both parties allied in 1996. In 2019, SAD and bjp won two lok sabha seats each in Punjab. Voting for 13 lok sabha seats of punjab will be held on june 1.
