Bangladesh: During the campaign, 221 clashes took place...

On december 18, the nation's 12th general election campaigning got underway. Since then, a lot of newspapers have been predicting that Sheikh Hasina will become prime minister once more. In this scenario, the locals believe that even if their Sheikh were to return as PM, their lives would not significantly improve. Not only that, but in the month between the start of the campaign and the day of the general elections, there were at least 221 conflicts in this nation, six fatalities, and 256 reports of election code of conduct violations.

Let's now examine the electoral process in this nation.

Bangladesh has a parliamentary system known as Jatiya Sansad, or the house of the Nation. The current parliament is composed of 350 MPs. Three hundred of these 350 members are chosen by popular vote. On the other hand, the vote share determines the distribution of the 50 seats set aside for women. These days, 151 seats are needed for any political party to establish the government of bangladesh, and the nation has parliamentary elections every five years.

What is the status of the voting process?

Similar to India, candidates in bangladesh are limited to one vote. In this process, the candidate with the most votes wins, and following the Prime Minister's selection, that candidate swears an oath in either bengali or English. In many cases, EVMs are the only method used to pick candidates.
