According to sources Tech billionaire Elon Musk is planning to launch a university in Texas’s Austin, news agency reported citing the SpaceX and tesla CEO’s tax filing. The billionaire who also owns social media site X also wants to build a STEM-focused K-12 school in Austin, according to the filings for Musk’s new charity “The Foundation”. He wants to start building the school with a donation of over $100 million.

“(The school) ultimately intends to expand its operations to create a university dedicated to education at the highest levels,” the filings revealed. The university would then seek accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Elon Musk expects the class to initially have 50 students. He will look to hire an executive director, teacher and administrator, the documents further revealed. The trustees include Jared Birchall, head of Musk’s family office, Steven Chidester, a tax attorney at Withersworldwide and Ronald Gong and Teresa Holland, who work at Catalyst Family office in California, news agency reported. Musk has forayed into the education sector earlier as well but in a small capacity. He built a small, private school in Los Angeles for his kids and the children of his employees in 2014. He is also planning to open a Montessori school for up to 15 students by converting a home in the town of Bastrop.

The tax filing comes a month after higher education critics-backed newly launched school university of Austin said it is accepting its first applicants for fall 2024. The university of Austin is blocks away from the university of texas at Austin and founders of the university of Austin say they decided to launch the institution to combat a rise in “illiberalism” on college campuses. The latest plan by Musk to enter the education industry is part of his to reshape Central texas as per his vision, according to a separate report. Musk moved to Austin during the Covid-19 pandemic.
