Amavasai thithi on october 31 starts at 4.29 pm and lasts through the night. The next day i.e. november 1, Amavasai Thithi will end at 6.25 PM. As the auspicious time for diwali falls on october 31, it is Shastra's ritual to celebrate the festival on this day.
