New National Awards in Science: Central Government..!?
Those of indian origin residing abroad with extraordinary contributions benefiting indian communities or society are also eligible for these awards. The awards will be presented in the following four categories.
** Science Ratna Award - Recognizes lifetime achievements and contributions made in any field of science and technology.
** Science Shri Award - Recognizes outstanding contribution in any field of science and technology.
** youth in Science - Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Award - recognizes and encourages young scientists up to the age of 45 who have made extraordinary contributions in any field of science and technology.
** Scientific Team Award – Awarded to a team of three or more scientists/researchers/inventors who have made extraordinary contributions by working in a team in any field of science and technology. National Science Awards (Rashtriya Vikyan Puraskar) will be given in 13 fields namely Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Medicine, Engineering Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Environment, technology and Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science and Technology. The central government has said that representation from every field/sector including gender equality will be ensured.
All nominations received for National Science Awards will be submitted to the National Science Awards Committee headed by the Principal Science Adviser to the Central Government. Nominations for these awards are invited on january 14 every year. It is received by february 28 (National Science Day) every year.
These awards are announced on May 11 (National technology Day) every year. The award ceremony for all categories of awards will be held on august 23 (National Space Day). All awards will be accompanied by a certificate and a medal.
