UP Cough Syrup Case: allahabad high court Refuses Stay on Arrests
Major Setback for Accused
The allahabad high court delivered a major blow to the accused in the high-profile codeine-based cough syrup case.
The court refused to stay the arrest of all 40 accused, including the main accused Shubham Jaiswal (also referred to as Shubham Agarwal in records).

The accused had filed applications seeking:Quashing of the FIRStay on their arrestAfter hearing arguments from both sides, the high court dismissed all applications.
This decision clears the way for immediate legal action under the NDPS Act.
Role of Main Accused
Shubham jaiswal was the key accused in the case and had a reward of ₹25,000 declared on him.
Investigators found that he distanced himself from partners while strengthening his supply chain.
STF Investigation and Arrests
The UP STF arrested Abhishek Sharma and Shubham Sharma from near Alambagh, Lucknow.
Both arrested accused were residents of Saharanpur.
During interrogation, they revealed details of the entire smuggling network.
Network of Smuggling
The arrested accused stated they worked for Vishal and Vibhor Rana.
Vishal and Vibhor had business links with Shubham Jaiswal.
Together, they were involved in transporting illegal consignments using fake e-way bills.
Illegal Transportation Routes
Cough syrup consignments were sent from:VaranasiLucknowKanpurGorakhpurAgraSupplies were transported to West bengal and other states.
From there, the syrup was smuggled further to Bangladesh and Nepal.
Misuse of Legal License
Shubham obtained a super stockist license from Abbott company in Ranchi.
The license was taken in the name of his father Bhola Jaiswal.
Using this license, illegal shipments were shown as legitimate.
Warehouse and Fake Documentation
A warehouse for storing codeine syrup was set up in Ghaziabad.
Shubham, through his firm Shaili Traders, ordered syrup from Himachal Pradesh.
Fake company documents were prepared to supply the syrup to UP cities.
Ongoing Legal Action
The High Court’s refusal to grant relief strengthens the investigation.
Authorities are now free to arrest all accused and continue proceedings under strict NDPS provisions.
