Responding to the opposition's objections during the earlier debate on the bill, Union home minister amit shah said in the rajya sabha that the delhi Service Bill does not in any way defy the orders or judgment of the supreme Court. This bill will make the governance in the national capital more effective and corruption free. He accused the kejriwal government and reiterated that the purpose of this bill is to prevent abuse of power by the delhi government. Shah's statement came hours after opposition members tabled a motion rejecting the ordinance brought by the government in May this year for passage in the House.The delhi Ordinance Bill was introduced in the rajya sabha on Monday. It was also passed in the rajya sabha late in the evening after a whole day long media debate. After the bill is passed by both houses, the bill will become a law after the President's signature. Voting was done by slip because the automatic voting machine was malfunctioning. 131 votes were cast in favor and 102 against.The bjp leader also claimed that the bill was first introduced by the congress when it was in power. He said that I want to assure you that any provision of the Bill which was in the congress regime has not been changed. Shah said that the congress itself had brought this bill earlier but this time it was opposing the bill only because it was engaged in appeasing the Aam Aadmi Party. home minister Shah said that the aam aadmi party government in delhi has transferred officials of the Vigilance Department to protect itself from the liquor scam. This was done because he had the files of liquor scam. He said that after the ruling, the AAP government ordered immediate transfers in the vigilance department as it was probing scams including renovation of Chief Minister's residence.
Taking a dig at the congress, amit shah said aam aadmi party chief arvind kejriwal will leave the opposition alliance india after the delhi Service Bill is passed. The opposition alliance is opposing the bill to save its alliance. He said that it doesn't matter how many parties join india, narendra modi will become PM again in 2024. congress leader mallikarjun Khadge objected to this and said that Shah should talk about the Bill and not about 2024 or avoid resorting to personal attacks.
Opposition parties congress, aam aadmi party and others opposed this bill during the debate on Monday. AAP leader Raghav Chadha said in the rajya sabha that the bill is a political fraud and a constitutional sin aimed at usurping the powers of an elected government in the national capital. He also appealed to non-NDA parties to support the bill in the House.
