Telangana - Pranahita on the rise, brings cheer to projects linked to KLIS

SIBY JEYYA
One of the main Godavari tributaries, Pranahita, is on the rise, which is a huge relief for the whole command of major irrigation supplies that rely on the kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme for their supplements. The lakshmi Barrage (Medigadda) is receiving inflows from Pranahita in the range of 1.38 lakh cusecs, and more flooding is anticipated. The main source of the KLIS has been the Pranahita subbasin, the seventh biggest in terms of area in india with a data-size of around 1,09,078 square km.

On Wednesday, the project's administrators opened six of the Medigadda barrage's floodgates. In the event that the water level rises higher in the next day or two, more gates will likely be opened. In contrast to the gross storage of 16 TMC, the live storage of the barrage is kept at 13 TMC. Stage II of the lift project at the Saraswati barrage has a gross storage capacity of 11 TMC, while the live storage is kept at 8.5 TMC. In contrast to its 9 TMC gross storage capacity, the parvathi barrage has a live storage of 7 TMC. At Medigadda, there are five pumps operating, compared to four each at Sundilla and Annaram.

No other irrigation project in the State had received any inflows in both the Godavari and krishna basins, with the exception of the kaleshwaram lift system. Even the Sri ram Sagar Project on the Godavari has so far not seen any significant inflows. SRSP cannot obtain any water from the Babli Project, whose gates were opened earlier this month.

2.7 TMC are drawn by SRSP from Kaleshwaram.

So far this week, the kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation scheme has pumped around 2.7 TMC of water into SRSP. In order to complement the irrigation sources that rely on it and fulfil the ayacut's irrigation and drinking water demands during the first two months of the season following the start of the monsoon, it was decided to lift 20 TMC of water from KLIS.

Following the increase in inflows, the amount of water pumped to the SRSP was increased from 0.25 TMC per day to half a TMC per day. According to KLIS's Chief engineer N Venkateswarlu, pumping activities would continue while taking into account the project's real needs. He said that Yellampalli's live storage is kept at 14 TMC, compared to the gross storage capacity of 20 TMC, and that practically all irrigation projects had storage levels that were appropriately built up to handle any unforeseen circumstances.

Ranganayaka Sagar is overflowing.

The Ranganayaka Sagar project, which is stretched throughout the districts of Siddipet, Sircilla, and Jangaon, delighted farmers in its ayacut by providing them with water retrieved from KLIS. Compared to the project's gross storage capacity of 3 TMC, the live storage is just a little bit above 2.7 TMC. The project would assist irrigation on more than 1.10 lakh acres.

Additionally filled to the FRL is the annapurna reservoir, which has a gross storage capacity of 3.5 TMC. The SRSP Rejuvenation programme is receiving a pumping of around 1.5 TMC of water.
