Tomato prices go through the roof in Hyderabad, Telangana districts
The scarcity of supply in the market, according to vendors at the Madannapet vegetable market, is the main cause of the price increase. Currently, a crate containing around 23 kg of tomatoes costs between Rs 1,600 and Rs 2,000. Similar to that, a package of small-data-size tomatoes costs Rs 1,200. Depending on the quality, tomatoes now cost between Rs 60 and Rs 80 per kg in the market. In certain circumstances, the price has even reached Rs 100.
The delayed monsoon and protracted heat waves, according to Madannapet vegetable market merchant bala Narasimha, are to blame for the most recent price increase. He claims that Telangana's tomato farming has been impacted by unfavourable climatic conditions, resulting in a drop in supplies. The summer's nonstop rain also had a detrimental effect on crops.
The merchants claim that prices have increased over the past 15 to 20 days. Tomatoes used to cost between Rs 35 and Rs 45 per kilogramme. Prices for both indigenous and hybrid kinds have significantly increased recently. However, some traders are optimistic that the rainfall would ease household expenditures in some way. Tomatoes are shipped from Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, and andhra pradesh to Hyderabad.
