Sasikala: Queen of Bribery in trouble- Prison Bribe...!?
Bangalore: A case was registered in 2018 alleging bribery of jail authorities to get luxury facilities while Sasikala was lodged in the Bangalore-area Agrahara jail in an embezzlement case.
Geetha, a social activist, has filed a welfare petition in the karnataka high court seeking an order to file a charge sheet soon as the Anti-Corruption Department is delaying the case.
Rupa, then the DIG of the karnataka Prisons Department, had alleged that Sasikala was given luxury facilities while he was lodged in the Bangalore-area Agrahara jail in a case of embezzlement. A separate kitchen was arranged for Sasikala in violation of prison rules.
Rupa had said in the charge that up to two crore rupees were changed for this. A team led by Vinay Kumar, a retired IAS officer, confirmed Rupa's complaint. Subsequently, the karnataka Anti-Corruption Brigade registered a case against Sasikala in 2011.
On august 25, the anti-corruption police had filed an investigation report in a sealed envelope. Following this, the Anti-Corruption police had asked for two months to file a charge sheet at the hearing held on september 7. But the court refused to grant a two-month reprieve and ordered a 30-day reprieve.
An order was also issued that the home Secretary should appear in person if the charge sheet was not filed within this period. Thus when the case came up for hearing again on october 10, the court was told that she could not appear in person because a close relative of the home Secretary had died.
The petition filed by Geeta in this regard came up for hearing yesterday. The charge sheet was then prepared on behalf of the home Secretary and sent to the home minister for approval. It has been informed that the complete charge sheet will be filed in court within two weeks after obtaining his permission.
The judge agreed and adjourned the case for 2 weeks. If the charge sheet is not filed within these two weeks, the home Secretary will be required to appear in person.
