Shortly after being ushered in as Punjab's chief minister—the state's first Dalit to hold the position—Charanjit Singh Channi got down to business. Channi's first remarks focused on the three primary agricultural regulations, and he stated that his administration stands with farmers in their fight against the legislation.

In his maiden press conference as punjab chief minister, Channi referred to himself as an "aam aadmi" in an obvious dig at the aam aadmi party (AAP), saying that the congress party has appointed an average citizen the CM. “I am a poor person who represents the poor. The reign of the common man has been formed,” he declared. “The party, not the cm or the cabinet, is paramount. The government would operate in accordance with the party's doctrine, according to Channi.

“All overdue energy bills of the needy would be waived and their power lines will be restored,” Channi stated, flanked by senior party leader Harish Rawat and congress punjab unit chairman Navjot Singh Sidhu. He pledged that an 18-point agenda would be executed piece by piece. It should also be noted that even indian PM Modi congratulated Charanjit Singh on being the new cm of punjab State.
