With his picture Animal, director Sandeep reddy Vanga came under heavy fire for allegedly glorifying violence and sexism. Notwithstanding this, many were taken aback when cult director Anurag Kashyap lauded Vanga as the “most misunderstood, judged, and reviled” director and referred to Animal as a major paradigm shift in hindi cinema.

In an explanation of his backing for Vanga, Kashyap highlighted how they had both encountered criticism from the business and compared it to his own movie bombay Velvet. In order to obtain a U/A rating, Kashyap had to make considerable cuts to his film bombay Velvet. He talked about his own experiences with censorship throughout that process.
During this time, Kashyap felt under pressure and unsupported; he lamented not being able to stand solid as Vanga did with his artistic vision. He claimed that Vanga had a lot to teach him. Kashyap bemoaned the industry's propensity to criticise and withdraw rather than have fruitful conversations.
