Thor's Ultimate Weapon Makes Mjolnir Look Like a Toy
Fans may see some of these forms in king Thor #4, and none are more stunning than Thor the Thunder World. It is revealed that in the distant future, a chaotic period known as the '1000 Nights of Ragnarok' will occur, during which the universe's gods would enter a profound slumber. New threats will emerge in their absence, including a species of apocalyptic monsters capable of absorbing suns. Thor will take a shocking new shape to confront them, that of a superpowered planet, despite being 'dead' in the human sense.
Thor will continue to fight evil with new weapons to replace his trusted hammer Mjolnir, now that his energies are housed in a massive, planet-data-sized orb. These are full moons crafted from solid uru, the same material as his regular weapon, and infused with mystical runes. Thor will be orbited by a swarm of moons, each capable of slamming through possessed suns as if they were nothing, rather than a single bludgeon. Thor the Thunder World, strange as it is, is a significant improvement over the lone Thunder god brandishing his charmed hammer.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time writer Jason Aaron has shown a Marvel character transforming into a planet. doctor Doom has also become a living planet in Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine (by Aaron and Adam Kubert), with later stories depicting him in battle with Thor's granddaughters. Despite his supernatural viewpoint, Thor is a fundamentally human character, and king Thor is a sombre trip that expresses the toll that thousands of years of his life would exact on the once carefree hero. It also affirms that Thor will continue to protect the cosmos in whatever shape he takes - and even after his death - whether he does so wielding the mighty hammer Mjolnir or not.
