Morbius suffers another another setback, with the film receiving the second-lowest CinemaScore for a Marvel comic adaptation. Morbius follows scientist Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) as he undergoes an experimental operation to heal his uncommon blood illness, based on the character of the same name created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. Instead, it turns him into something resembling a vampire. The film was originally scheduled to be released in 2020, but owing to COVID-19, it was postponed for two years and finally released on april 2, 2022.
The film is the third instalment in Sony's expanding Spider-Man universe, and it was expected to be a big component in the franchise going forward, with the creative team promoting up crossovers with Venom and the Sinister Six even before the film's release. The wait may not have been worthwhile, as the critical response to the picture has been mostly poor, and it presently has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 16%. While there is sometimes a difference between critics and audiences, it appears that the opening night attendees were not enthusiastic about Morbius.
Morbius received a C+ on CinemaScore from opening night audiences, according to IndieWire, making it the lowest grade for a Marvel Comics film since Fantastic Four in 2015, which received a C-. Morbius is tied with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, a 2012 film that also received a C+. Morbius received a lower grade than the critically panned Howard the Duck, which received a B-, and the underwhelming X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which also received a B-.
