Over the past few decades, dog meat consumption has declined in South Korea. A poll conducted last year in 2023 found that only 8% of respondents had eaten dog meat, compared to 27% in 2015. A decrease is also evident in the data supplied by the industry-representing Korean Association of Edible Dogs. indicating that fewer individuals are eating. The report also showed that, compared to 10,000 at the start of 2010, there are today only roughly 3,000 dog farms in south korea that raise dogs for meat. government estimates, however, place the number of farms in the nation at 1,100.

An organization dedicated to animal welfare carried out a poll in Seoul. This indicates that roughly 82% of South Koreans support the ban and 93% stated they would prefer not to eat dog meat in the future.

However, there has also been a rise in the number of animal lovers. The government reports that one in four South Koreans keep a pet based on survey data from 2022. Animal lovers, even South President Yoon Suk Yeol and his spouse Kim Keon Hee. He himself owns five cats and six dogs as pets.
