End of Farmers Protest: Why did the Modi government take the "U-turn"?

What are the demands of the farmers?
The farmers demanded the repeal of these three laws. On november 19, 2021, prime minister Narendra Modi apologized to all the farmers of the country, announcing that these laws were being withdrawn.
After the central government withdrew the laws, the farmer representatives led by the US Kisan Morcha held talks with the central government representatives on december 7 on the future course of action.
What are these laws?
Making some amendments to the Commodity Commodities Act, 1955. The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020 was enacted to regulate the activities of the Center for the production, supply, distribution and trade of essential commodities. Competition in the sector, the Center said, was a law aimed at increasing farmers' incomes.
The main elements of this law
Storage: The law also gives the center the power to regulate the amount of storage that a person can store of any essential item. This is based on the increase in prices. The decision is made by estimating the level of growth compared to the five-year average price or the one-year-old price.
However, this storage limit does not apply to value chain partners of the respective farm goods.
Farmer Products Trade and business (Incentive, Facilitation) Act'
It allows for free trade between different states in the country and between districts within the states, regardless of the market committees that regulate agricultural markets. Neither the states nor the local governments can levy any taxes or fees on agricultural products sold beyond the boundaries of the market committees.
Electronic Trading: Allows electronic trading (e-commerce) of products under the control of the State Agricultural Market Committees in the specified trade area. An electronic trading platform can be set up for online trading. PAN card holders, partners, registered societies, farmer producer organizations, agricultural co-operatives can set up any such online trading platform.
The Appellate Authority will be consulted against the decision of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
The Appellate Authority consists of IAS level officers.This law does not allow for the taking of agricultural land for recovery if a decision is made against the farmer at any level.
