PM assesses six states on Covid-19 and emphasises efforts to prevent a 3rd wave.
The prime minister warned that similar tendencies were detected in january and february before the second wave hit the country, and that preemptive steps were needed to prevent an unmanageable spike in the areas where cases were on the rise.
In the recent week, the states of kerala and maharashtra accounted for 80% of cases and 84 percent of fatalities. There are still concerns about the third wave of the coronavirus, according to prime minister Narendra Modi. If the number of cases continues to climb, he believes the likelihood of the virus mutating will increase, as will the hazards of new variations.
During the month of July, six states accounted for more than 80% of all cases. Certain of these states have a high test positive rate, with some districts reporting rates of 10% or more. In areas with large case loads, the Union health secretary stressed the importance of reinforcing Covid proper behaviour and containment measures.
