Interestingly, Dhurandhar is not the first indian film to data-face such a fate. Before it, several popular and critically acclaimed films were either banned or denied release in gulf nations due to their subject matter. Here’s a detailed look at five such films and the reasons behind their ban:


1. tiger 3 (2023)


Starring salman khan and katrina kaif, Tiger 3 was producedunder the Yash Raj Films banner.


The spy thriller was appreciated globally but data-faced a ban in six gulf countries, including Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar.


Authorities reportedly objected to the film’s negative political portrayal and sensitive geopolitical undertones, leading to its restriction in the region.


2. Kaathal – The Core (2023)


Directed by Jeo Baby, this malayalam romantic thriller featured a homosexual relationship at the heart of its story.


While the film was praised for its mature storytelling and strong performances,


Its LGBTQ+ theme conflicted with conservative laws and cultural norms in gulf countries, resulting in a ban.


3. Gangs of Wasseypur (2012)


Anurag Kashyap’s cult classic starred Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Pankaj Tripathi.


Despite limited box office success initially, the film gained legendary status over time.


However, its raw violence, strong language, and depiction of criminal characters were considered offensive, especially to religious sentiments in gulf nations.


4. fighter (2024)


Featuring Hrithik Roshan, deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor, fighter focused on the India–Pakistan conflict.


A particular scene involving the capture and torture of an indian character sparked controversy.


Due to its political sensitivity and portrayal of a neighboring country, the film was barred from release in gulf regions.


5. article 370 (2024)


This political drama starred yami gautam in a powerful role.


The film explored the abrogation of article 370 in kashmir and its aftermath.


Given its controversial political narrative and real-life references, gulf countries chose not to allow its release.
