Chhattisgarh IAS officer slaps man-says sorry after video emerges

Chhattisgarh: Surajpur district collector Ranbir Sharma was seen slapping a person and slamming his phone on the ground in a viral video, for allegedly violating COVID19 lockdown guidelines. After this incident, video was shared widely on social media. In the video, the man can be seen showing a piece of paper and something on his mobile phone to the collector who takes the device and throws it to the ground. The IAS officer has been removed and departmental proceedings to be initiated. chhattisgarh cm bhupesh baghel has instructed the removal of district collector Ranbir Sharma from Surajpur immediately. According to reports, first information report has been filed against the man for speeding and not stopping his two-wheeler despite being told to do so.


Surajpur Dist collector said he was out for vaccination but there was no proper document. Later, he said he was going to visit his grandmother. I slapped him in heat of moment when he misbehaved. He was 23-24 y/o & not 13. I regret & apologize for my behaviour. IAS Association strongly condemns the behaviour of collector Surajpur, Chhattisgarh. It is unacceptable & against basic tenets of service & civility. Civil servants must have empathy & provide healing touch to society at all times, more so in these difficult times it said.
