Which certificate will have to be shown for booking in OYO?
Hotel booking company oyo has implemented a new check-in rule for its partner hotels. According to this new guideline, unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to check-in in oyo hotels. This rule has been first implemented in meerut and will be followed from 2025.
Why did oyo do this?
According to the new rule, all couples will now have to show a valid relationship certificate at the time of check-in in oyo, whether their booking is done online or offline. oyo has given its partner hotels the right to reject the booking of couples based on local social norms. oyo says that this decision has been taken keeping in mind social sensitivity and local laws.
It started from Meerut
According to the Times of india report, oyo has instructed its partner hotels to implement this rule in meerut with immediate effect. The company says that based on the impact and feedback of this rule, it can be implemented in other cities as well. The company says that civil groups and local residents of meerut and some other cities had demanded oyo to stop unmarried couples from checking in. These groups had requested oyo to take steps in this direction, calling it a policy "in line with the values of society", after which this decision has been taken.
We understand our responsibility
Speaking to PTI, Pavas Sharma, Region Head of oyo North india, said, "OYO is known for maintaining safe and responsible hospitality practices. We respect individual freedom, but it is also our responsibility to work with local law and society's views." Sharma also said that the company will also review this rule from time to time. oyo said that this new rule is part of positioning the brand as a safe and trusted option for families, students, business tourists, religious tourists and solo travelers.
