According to sources delhi recorded its coldest morning on thursday with the temperature dropping to 11.2 degrees Celsius amid thick fog in the region. Safdarjung, the primary weather observatory, recorded a minimum temperature of 16.1 degrees Celsius and attributed the temperature dip to a western disturbance that brought snowfall to the Himalayan region. The minimum temperature varied across the national capital: the Ridge area recorded 11.2 degrees Celsius, Ayanagar 14.4 degrees Celsius, Lodhi Road 15 degrees Celsius, and Palam 16.8 degrees Celsius.Meanwhile it comes as the deteriorating air quality choked the national capital on thursday morning. The air quality slipped back into the ‘Severe’ level, posing a significant health hazard to residents. The air quality in delhi hit its worst level today, with the air Quality Index (AQI) in several areas breaching the 400 mark. On Wednesday, a similar situation choked the national capital as the AQI spiked to 429.
Moreover the indigo flights travelling to and from delhi, varanasi and amritsar were impacted due to the unfavourable visibility factor, said the airline in a travel advisory. According to the CPCB, a severe air Quality Index (AQI) of 401–500 can cause respiratory issues even in healthy people, and serious health issues in people with heart or lung disease.
