Rahul Gandhi Reaches Out to Anna Sebastian's Family, Pledges Support for Their Cause
On Saturday, congress leader Rahul gandhi spoke with the parents of Anna Sebastian Perayil, extending his condolences for her untimely death. The conversation took place via video call during a visit by praveen Chakravarty, chairman of the All india Professionals’ congress (AIPC), to Anna's family. Anna, who worked at Ernst and Young india, passed away on July 20, prompting significant outrage after her mother, Anita Augustine, wrote a letter attributing Anna’s death to “excessive work pressure.” In response, the central government has initiated an investigation. EY india chairman Rajiv Memani vowed to work towards creating a more supportive workplace.
During the call, Rahul gandhi promised Anita's family that he would advocate for their cause as the leader of the opposition. He praised their bravery in addressing this critical issue during such a challenging time, highlighting the need for better working conditions for professionals across India. He also instructed Chakravarty to spearhead an awareness campaign in Anna’s memory.
In the coming weeks, AIPC plans to establish a helpline to gather information from corporate professionals about work-related stress and toxic workplace environments. Additionally, the organization aims to develop draft guidelines to improve working conditions within the corporate sector.
