A news 18 malayalam report claims that Rajinikanth and dhanush were originally scheduled to play the key roles in the movie GOAT. dhanush was selected to portray the son, and Rajinikanth was scheduled to play the father. It is been said that Venkat, the filmmaker, had these two actors in mind when he created the plot. But Vijay was chosen instead once it was discovered that de-aging technology can make characters seem younger. The narrative was then apparently changed by the filmmaker to suit Vijay's part. This modification has not received formal confirmation.

Vijay is slated to play two roles in GOAT: Jeevan, the son of gandhi, and gandhi, a hostage negotiator. The protagonist of the story is gandhi, who works for the Chennai-based Special Anti-Terrorist Squad (SATS), an organization that cooperates with RAW. gandhi and his group had problems relating to their previous operations after he retired. The movie chronicles their journey as they data-face and overcome these obstacles.
