Teacher Sentenced to 30 Years Jail for Having Séx with Student

A former maryland teacher who repeatedly had sex with a teenage student was given a 30-year jail sentence. Melissa Curtis, 32, will serve three decades in prison, with all but 12 months suspended, and five years of supervised probation after being released for three charges of third-degree sex offenses, according to a Fox 5 DC story.
 
In addition to being prohibited from having unsupervised contact with youngsters outside of her children as part of her probation, Curtis will have to register as a sex offender for 25 years after her release. On november 7, 2023, the former teacher handed herself into the police. She was accused of many charges of third- and fourth-degree sexual crimes as well as sexual abuse of a juvenile.
 
Fox 5 DC reports that between january and May 2015, the assault took place in Ms. Curtis' car and at many local homes in Montgomery County. According to authorities, Ms. Curtis allegedly gave the eighth grader drink and drugs and engaged in sexual activity with him over 20 times. They noted that Ms. Curtis had been a teacher for around two years and had previously taught at Lakelands Park Middle School.
 

According to a court filing, prosecutors claimed that once the young adolescent volunteered for an after-school program Curtis oversaw, the two were frequently left alone together.
 
When the victim came out with the abuse claims in october 2023, police began their investigation.
 
According to the media site, she entered a guilty plea on june 20 to three charges of third-degree sex offenses.
