According to Naidu, as of march 31, 2019, ap owed Rs. 3,75,975 crore in debt. 2019 saw the ycp take office in May. The debt quadrupled by the time ycp was overthrown, reaching a total of Rs. 9,74,556 crore as of june 12, 2024. Of these 9.74 lakh crores, Rs. 4,38,278 crore belonged to the government, and Rs. 2,48,677 crore to corporations.
According to Chandrababu Naidu, there's a good probability there are more, and there are still a lot of unpaid obligations. It was reported that the polavaram Project's construction delays had resulted in a cumulative loss of almost Rs. 52,900 crore. Of these 52,900 crores, 45,000 crore were lost as a result of water supply delays to ayacut regions;
4900 crore were lost as a result of damages and repairs; and 3000 crore were lost as a result of a delay in the production of hydel electricity. Naidu emphasised that the government would have received a GSDP contribution of Rs. 52,900 crores had the project not been mishandled. It was also mentioned that the government suffered losses of about Rs. 2-3 lakh crores as a result of the suspended activities in Amaravati.
