The formation of the telugu desam party (TDP) in andhra pradesh created a political sensation, as no party had ever come to power within nine months of its inception. The late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) founded the telugu desam party as a symbol of the self-respect of the telugu people. ntr then toured the state extensively in the chaitanya Ratham, spending more time on this tour than at home, becoming familiar with the people over the nine-month period.
His son, Harikrishna, actively participated in the tour as the charioteer of the chaitanya Ratham, which made him well-known among the party leaders.
