South Cinema's Half-Yearly Report 2024

G GOWTHAM
The question of which was superior—the hindi or regional cinema industries—was discussed in 2022. Sadly, there isn't even room for it in this year's trade market. For the time being, however. The kannada film business doesn't appear to be doing well, whereas the tamil film industry saw some success with films like "Captain Miller" and "Maharaja."

This year hasn't seen any significant successes for the kannada industry. The telugu industry is undergoing a difficult time as well. Outstanding word of mouth is required. The film business is having difficulties. Another issue for them is that the purchasers from OTT and satellite are not making upfront purchases. According to trade expert Ramesh Bala, it has been a difficult year for the indian industry as a whole.

The malayalam cinema industry is following the trend as usual in the midst of the competition at the box office, hits, and figures. It's content with the slower pace and isn't in a haste to get the registers ringing. Good content has always been the industry's first goal, and that's what's keeping it alive.

"Grandeur was never the goal of the malayalam cinema industry. They never pursued anything, not even during the production of "Baahubali" or "KGF," since they were aware that their greatest assets were their acting, narrative, and content creation skills. Many people watched malayalam films on OTT during the epidemic. With "Manjummel Boys," "Premalu," "Goat Life," and other plays, they can now finally experience theatrical success, according to Ramesh Bala.

The malayalam film business operates on the principle of going local to get global. They didn't produce anything akin to a masala entertainment or a pan-India hit like "KGF" or "Pushpa." They just stayed true to themselves and produced intelligent films across several genres. Fortunately, they haven't data-faced much competition from other industries this year. people from other states are recognising their excellence now that it has finally emerged, said Bala.
