Russia cracks down after Alexei Navalny's death, 400 arrests..?

The world was shocked by the passing of Russian Opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who many believed held the key to Russia's future. As a result of the Russian government's crackdown on those who had gathered to honor Alexei Navalny, more than 400 people were taken into custody on sunday across the country, according to the rights organization OVD-Info. St. Petersburg, the second-biggest city in Russia, was the site of the majority of the arrests.

The most outspoken opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Alexei Navalny, who escaped many assassination attempts, passed away on friday at a remote Arctic correctional facility. Alexei Navalny went for a walk, according to prison services, and after falling, the physicians attempted resuscitation, but it was not successful. Following his death, there was a global outcry, with campaigners and world leaders accusing Vladimir Putin of being to blame.

The first world leader to publicly assert that Vladimir Putin was responsible for Alexei Navalny's death was US President Joe Biden.

While Russia's mainstream media stayed silent on Alexei Navalny's dubious death, the nation's citizens weren't afraid to voice their thoughts on social media sites like Telegram and X. One letter, among the flowers at a makeshift memorial in Moscow, read, "Alexei Navalny's death is the worst thing that could happen to Russia." At the Russian embassies overseas, there were anti-Kremlin protests. The protesters blamed the Russian President for Alexei Navalny's death.
