Blame game, nothing else - Union Minister on Karnataka Ministers Protest

G GOWTHAM
In response to protests over tax "injustice" in delhi, Union minister v muraleedharan said that the congress ministers, together with karnataka Chief minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar, might file a privilege motion against Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Muraleedharan stated, "States like tamil Nadu and kerala are trying to paint a picture over GST compensation," in an interview with india Today TV. They are only using the narendra Modi-led government's criticism to try to get political points."

He said, "The political parties in South india have not been able to fulfil their election promises and now this is a blame game they are indulging in."

There is a privilege motion provision in Parliament. Opposition parties must file a privilege motion if they believe Union Finance minister nirmala sitharaman misled the House. That is not what they are doing. They are only conducting press conferences, that is it."

The karnataka government argues that despite making significant GST contributions, they have received the raw deal and have not been awarded cash allocations. The opposition parties, including the congress, assert that bjp officials are unwilling to advocate for the people of the south, forcing them to travel to delhi in order to be heard.

V Muraleedharan emphasised the government's "Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas" philosophy, saying that regardless of the support the government obtains from the states, no state has been treated unfairly under the bjp under prime minister narendra Modi. All states receive assistance from the federal government, whether it be for commerce, industry, railroads, roads, poverty concerns, or agriculture. According to Muraleedharan, this is the reason kerala and karnataka were also given the chance to host the G20 activities.

"Let me tell you what this is (the congress government's protest)," the minister stated. It is little more than a political catchphrase since, whether it is kerala or karnataka, they are unable to keep their word to the people. It's PM Modi they want to blame now. They blame the bjp, prime minister narendra Modi, and nirmala sitharaman because they know they will lose the next lok sabha elections."

His remarks coincided with rallies against state discrimination organised by the karnataka Cabinet on thursday at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. According to the Chief minister, karnataka contributes Rs 100 in income to the Centre, but only gets Rs 13.

Maharashtra is the top state in terms of tax collection, with karnataka coming in second. In actuality, karnataka is paying more than Rs 4.30 lakh crore in taxes this year. karnataka contributes Rs 100 in income to the Centre, but only gets Rs 13. The karnataka chief minister stated at the protest site, "We are agitating because we lost Rs 62,098 crore in taxes in 2025–2026 as a result of the 14th Finance Commission to the 15th Finance Commission.
