What king Charles' cancer Prognosis Mean for prince William?

Less than two weeks following king Charles III's admission for treatment of an enlarged prostate in a london hospital, Buckingham Palace announced that testing had detected "a form of cancer." Since doctors have "advised Charles to postpone public-facing duties," many anticipated that other royal family members would take the lead. What does this entail for William and Harry, Charles's two sons?

Will prince William be responsible for any "public-facing duties" as king?

Theoretically, any of the few senior royals who are still in the workforce may be asked to represent king Charles at events and perform other tasks while he is undergoing treatment. Some are expected to be absorbed by queen Camilla, Princess Anne, and Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh.

However, a significant portion of Charles's responsibilities are anticipated to be taken on by his heir apparent, William, the prince of Wales. It was only lately that the prince made the decision to step back from his public responsibilities when his wife, catherine, was in the hospital for "planned abdominal surgery."  (The royal family announced at the time that catherine would not be participating in any public events until after easter in order to allow for her recuperation.)

According to journalist Elizabeth Holmes, who has written extensively about the royal family, "I think the spotlight will surely fall on prince William with the Princess of wales having abdominal surgery and being out of the public eye." Ms. Holmes continued, "Camilla has also been keeping a busy schedule recently. Last week, the queen consort had "public engagements every day, which is a lot."
