In a bid to monitor the escalating prices of rice, the central government has taken proactive measures to ensure affordable and quality rice reaches the people of the country. The strategy involves introducing rice into the open market under the name 'Bharat Rice,' with a fixed price of Rs. 29 per kg. sanjeev Chopra, Secretary of the Ministry of Food at the Centre, disclosed that sales are slated to commence from the upcoming week, aiming to provide relief to the middle class.

To implement this initiative effectively, the government has imposed a ban on rice exports as a measure to stabilize prices. Despite this, rice prices have witnessed a 15 percent surge. The proposed rice will be made available through retail centres operated by entities such as the National Agriculture Co-operative Marketing Federation of india Limited (NAFED), National Co-operative Consumers Federation of india (NCCF), and Kendriya Bhandar. Additionally, the rice will be offered on various e-commerce platforms.

To ensure accessibility and convenience, the rice will be packaged in 5 kg and 10 kg bags. The government has committed to releasing 5 lakh tonnes of rice into the retail market during the initial phase. While the central government had earlier announced the sale of Bharat wheat flour at Rs. 27.50 per kg and Bharat dal at Rs. 60 per kg, reports indicate that these commodities may not be readily available in the two telugu states.

The move is seen as a comprehensive effort to stabilize rice prices, and the success of the initiative will depend on public interest and acceptance of the quality of the 'Bharat Rice.' Amidst this, concerns linger over the rising prices of other essential commodities like pulses, crackers, groundnuts, signaling the need for continued monitoring and intervention.
