Maharashtra Farmer Siddhesh Sakore Honored as UN Land Hero!

On the occasion of World Desertification and drought Day, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) announced the names of 10 Land Heroes in a programme held in Bonn, Germany. One of the honorees was Siddhesh Sakore, a dedicated farmer from Maharashtra, India.
During the event, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres delivered an inspiring address. He emphadata-sized the critical importance of unity in combating land degradation and desertification, encapsulated in this year's theme, "United for Land". Guterres called for collective action involving governments, businesses, academics, communities, and various stakeholders to tackle these pressing environmental issues.
He highlighted the clear roadmap provided by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, underscoring the urgent need to accelerate its implementation as the convention marks its 30th anniversary. Guterres urged for significant progress to be made before the upcoming UNCCD COP16 in Riyadh, emphasizing the importance of involving young people in the negotiations.
"Together, let's sow the seeds for a thriving future -- for nature and humanity," he concluded, urging all participants to work collaboratively towards a sustainable and resilient future for our planet. Siddhesh Sakore's message to the future generation is one of inspiration and responsibility. He emphadata-sizes the importance of sustainable farming practices and the need to protect and nurture the land for future generations. He encourages young people to be proactive in addressing environmental challenges, to embrace innovative agricultural methods, and to stay committed to preserving natural resources. Sakore believes that by working together and making mindful choices, the future generation can create a more sustainable and prosperous world for all.
