A total of 75 crore telecom customers including jio and airtel are at risk. 75 crore customers' highly secure data is sold on Darkweb for a fraction of the price. It includes many personal details including Aadhaar number and phone number. Hackers can use this information to carry out any cyber scam at any time.  According to a statement, the telecom sector in india has asked all telecom operators in the country to conduct customer security audits. In fact, this issue was reported by CloudSEK, a cyber security company in India. In which hackers sell 1.8 terabytes of data on Darkweb. It is reported that this includes the information of telecom users in the country. All of this data contains secure information about general users. CloudSEK says they include details like name, mobile number, address and where you live, even Aadhaar number.
According to the information published by Economics, the country's telecom companies have responded to the DoT. The leak appears to have been interpreted as a collection of old datasets from various telecom customers. The news also clarified that the intrusion was not due to any technical flaw in the telecom operators' infrastructure. However, this data can be used by hackers to launch a cyber attack against any particular user. This can lead to identity theft and even reputational fraud. Currently, this data breach is still being investigated. Telecom operators like jio, airtel, Vi, and others have not yet given any official response on the matter. The Computer Emergency Response Team of india (CERT-In) is said to be monitoring this as well.
indian telecom users are advised to take the following security measures. What they do is set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for their mobile phones. Keep their passwords strong. Be aware of spam text messages and emails from strangers. Check their bank accounts and other financial accounts frequently. Check their credit rating frequently. These measures are said to help protect users from cyber attacks.
