If they do not announce their retirement, we will decide..!?
Senior players rohit sharma and virat kohli will not quit the indian Test team on their own, nor will they announce their retirement. However, a bcci official has categorically stated that the selection committee will take the decision on when to drop them. The indian Test team has been facing heavy defeats in recent times. The indian team had suffered a heavy defeat 0-3 in the Test series against new zealand on indian soil. It was then defeated 1-3 in Australia. Following this, voices are growing that virat kohli and rohit sharma should be removed from the team for not batting properly. rohit sharma was expected to retire after the Test series against Australia, but he has said that he will not retire for now. There are reports that virat kohli is keen to play Test matches till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
However, the poor performance of both of them is only hurting the indian team. At the end of the Test series against Australia, former players Irfan Pathan and sunil gavaskar strongly criticized both of them. They had said that neither of them would announce their retirement on their own and the bcci would not take any action against them. A bcci official was asked about this. He replied, "The bcci is unhappy with the defeat in Australia. The indian team is currently facing a difficult situation. This will be discussed once the indian players return to the country. They have said that they will not retire on their own and the bcci will not ask them to retire. But when the right time comes, the selection committee will take the right decision." The official said. Through this, it seems that kohli and Rohit are indirectly saying that they will not get a chance in the Test team anymore.
