Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. chandrababu naidu has proposed large-scale saffron cultivation in Lambasingi using the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The initiative aims to diversify agriculture and position andhra pradesh as a new saffron-producing state in India.

The proposal was discussed during a review meeting of agriculture and allied sectors held in Amaravati.

PPP Model with Tribal Participation

The chief minister emphadata-sized that private companies willing to invest in saffron cultivation will be permitted under the PPP framework.

A key condition of the project is the active involvement of local tribal communities, ensuring livelihood opportunities and inclusive growth.

Tribal participation will include cultivation, maintenance, and other farm-related activities.

Why Lambasingi Was Chosen

Lambasingi, located in Chintapalli mandal of Alluri sitaramaraju district, is popularly known as the “Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh” due to its cool climate.

The region already supports crops like coffee, pepper, and strawberries, making it suitable for high-value crops like saffron.

Its scenic geography and climatic conditions offer potential for premium agricultural produce.

Other Major Agricultural Directions

Naidu instructed officials to develop a “Coca City” on 500 acres in the eluru district, including facilities for cultivation, processing, and global-standard marketing.

Despite andhra pradesh ranking second in banana production nationally, the cm expressed concern over low export levels and called for improved export strategies.

Focus on Aquaculture and Natural Farming

The chief minister announced that registration of aquaculture activities will be made mandatory to regulate and strengthen the sector.

He also directed officials to take steps to transform andhra pradesh into the largest natural farming hub in the country.

The state aims to promote sustainable, chemical-free farming practices alongside commercial agriculture.
