Elderly man sitting on dharna dies in Barabanki
The death of an elderly man sitting on an indefinite dharna in Barabanki district created a stir. It is alleged that, out of the people sitting on an indefinite dharna, the district administration forcibly took 4 elderly people in their car on the pretext of getting them treated and instead of taking them to the hospital, left them at their home. Due to which 70-year-old Gauri died at night. For the fourth time since 24 november 2024, about 20 people of deceased pattidars including landless elderly leaseholders Gauri, Kishori, Budhu and Keedha of Basari village were sitting on an indefinite dharna at the Sugarcane Institute located at the district headquarters.
Satish, son of leaseholder Rajita Ram, who was sitting on an indefinite dharna, said that 75-year-old deceased Gauri son Ballu was also sitting on an indefinite dharna with him. They kept demanding possession and intervention by recovering the land records. Meanwhile, the sub-district magistrate and tehsildar of Fatehpur tehsil and the Kotwal Mohammadpur Khala came with the police force on 17 december 2024 at 4 pm and forcibly took 70-year-old Gauri son Ballu, Kishori son Bhikha, Kidhu son Bhikha and Budhu son Nanakau and Ramcharan son Arjun, who were sitting on an indefinite dharna at the sugarcane institute, in their car.
Family members made serious allegations against the officials
Family members say that they were picked up on the pretext of treatment and left at their homes. The SDM had assured everyone that everyone's land would be measured and given to them. Meanwhile, Gauri had a heart attack at 2 o'clock on the night of 27 december while sitting in worry and died. During the conversation while sitting on the dharna, 65-year-old Budhu's wife Ramkali told that her husband was left at home by the district administration, who is very worried and she is protesting. Kidhu's 65 year old wife Jagrani said that her husband is at home, his health is also bad but Gauri is no more, it is a matter of great sorrow for us.
50 year old Satish son of Rajita Ram, sitting on the dharna, said that in the year 1973, the district administration had given 69 pattas to the landless. Till now all the patta holders have gradually died, only 4 people are alive, including 70 year old Lallu son Holi, 75 year old Kishori son Bhikha, 70 year old Budhu son Nanakau and 72 year old Kidhu son Paragi. According to the family members, out of 69 patta holders, 4 people are alive, the rest of the family members are the wife and their sons of the deceased, who are adamant on the demand of their land and are sitting on an indefinite dharna in the sugarcane institute.
