The recent crackdown by security forces on supporters of US President-elect donald trump in bangladesh has drawn international attention. Just days after he condemned the attacks on Hindus and other minorities in bangladesh, celebration rallies organised by trump supporters were stopped by police in Dhaka and other cities.

According to an india Today report, several groups had gathered in Dhaka and other cities on friday evening to celebrate Trump's victory. These groups displayed banners and posters supporting trump, which read, "Mr. President donald trump loves Bangladesh." But the police took immediate action and confiscated these banners and stopped the parade.

The Bangladeshi army and police also conducted raids late at night, in which several people were detained. According to an india Today report, the people arrested were ordinary citizens and had no connection with any political party. The wave of support for trump in bangladesh came after his recent comments in which he strongly condemned the violence against Hindus and other minorities in the country. trump said in his statement, "I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians and other minorities in bangladesh, which is in a state of complete chaos. This would never have happened under my watch." Bangladesh government's response Muhammad Yunus, chief adviser to the interim government of bangladesh, sent a congratulatory message to Trump on his election victory. Yunus in his letter reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to peace and inclusiveness and said that bangladesh looks forward to partnering with trump in his efforts for global stability and prosperity. He also said that Bangladesh is dedicated to building a peaceful and inclusive society.
