Reportedly leader of Opposition in maharashtra Legislative Council Ambadas Danve said on tuesday that 6,740 farmers had committed suicide in the state during the two and a half year tenure of the previous Mahayuti government. Ambadas Danve claimed that between July 1, 2022 and november 30, 2024, 6,740 farmers committed suicide and most of the farmers died in nagpur and Amravati districts.

Perhaps shiv sena (Uddhav balasaheb Thackeray) Legislative Council member Danve made this statement while participating in the discussion on the address of governor CP Radhakrishnan in a joint meeting of both the houses of the state legislature. Expressing concern over the deteriorating condition of the farmers, he accused the bharatiya janata party led Mahayuti government of neglecting the issues of the farmers. Ambadas Danve claimed that the state government has promised to give Rs 6,000 per quintal minimum support price (MSP) for cotton, but the farmers have not received this amount yet.

Moreover according to news agency, Ambadas Danve, while reacting to the proposal of 'One Nation, One Election', described it as ending democracy in the country and implementing a dictatorship. He said, "This means ending democracy and bringing in dictatorship. If only one election is held, then the same government will remain in power for five years and no other government will be able to come." Citing an example, he said, "In maharashtra, the government has changed three times in the last five years. What would have happened if there was a One Nation, One Election? This is the reason why he is opposing this proposal." In fact, while presenting this bill in the lok sabha on tuesday, Union Law minister Arjun ram Meghwal had claimed that this could be an important step towards reducing the election expenditure of the country and simplifying the electoral process.
