India's PM makes his first bilateral visit to brunei in forty years!

In the study of international relations, one thing is always taught that no country is small or big, because we do not know when they will become important, it cannot be said. Something similar can be understood about Brunei. brunei is a small nation in South east Asia. Its population is less than that of India's smallest state Sikkim. prime minister Narendra Modi was on a three-day visit to singapore and brunei, two small and important nations of South east Asia from 3 to 5 September, but almost all indians who are interested in foreign policy have this question in their mind that why did the prime minister suddenly choose to visit a small country like brunei, where no indian prime minister has set foot till date?

Diplomatic relations between india and brunei started in 1984. In these 40 years, prime minister Modi is the first prime minister who has officially visited Brunei. Though the then Prime minister Manmohan Singh visited the country in 2013 during the hosting of the ASEAN-India Summit, it was not a bilateral visit. During this visit of prime minister Modi, bilateral agreements were signed between india and brunei in several areas. According to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Prime Minister's statement, the two countries will focus on mutual cooperation in agriculture, industry, pharma and health as well as technology and cyber security. "We have reached a consensus on satellite development, remote sensing, and training in the space sector. The establishment of direct communication between the two nations is imminent."
