After the incident was made public on june 23, the four accused were placed under remand for a period of seven days. According to a local news source, the Sun, Shamnaz was fired on wednesday from his role as state minister at the Ministry of the Environment.

The inquiry is ongoing, according to Assistant Commissioner of police Ahmed Shifan, the chief police spokeswoman. Shamnaz is no longer included among the political appointees on the maldives Environment Ministry's website. The list of "former" political appointees now includes her name. She had previously been a member of Muizzu's Male City Council during his tenure as the city's mayor.

Shamnaz served on the Male City Council with her purported ex-husband during Muizzu's tenure as mayor of the city. Shamnaz left the council after Muizzu was elected president of the maldives last year, and he was named a state minister in Muliaage, the president's official house. Later on, she was moved to the ministry of the environment. However, Rameez, her ex-husband, was well-known for being Muizzu's close aide. local media, however, said that he had been out of the public eye for the previous five months. As of right now, neither the President's office nor the maldives government have released any formal remarks regarding the case.
