Approval to clean Cauvery; Don't delay a bit - Anbumani's advice to tamil Nadu Govt

We should not laugh at the fact that Cauvery, which is revered as a holy river, is turning into a toxic river. While the central government has approved the cleaning of Cauvery, Anbumani has requested the tamil Nadu government to carry out the work immediately.

In a statement issued by BAMA President Anbumani Ramadoss, "The Central Water Resources Commission has approved the implementation of the 'Nandhai Vazhi Cauvery' project to clean up the Cauvery river in tamil Nadu. It is welcome that the Central Water Resources Commission has approved the Cauvery cleaning project, which has been shelved for more than five years.

Every day, 150 crore liters of waste from households and industries in Bengaluru city and its surrounding areas are dumped into the Cauvery. In tamil Nadu, a large amount of waste is dumped into the Cauvery from factories, dyehouses etc. 28 types of toxins including cancer-causing carcinogen and immune-destroying dioxin are released into the Cauvery from the Mettur Chemplast plant alone. The study revealed that there are 52 types of toxic substances in kumbakonam alone, where the public takes a holy dip. It is imperative to clean the Cauvery, which has become so degraded.

The Proletarian People's party has been insisting that the Cauvery should be cleaned. In 2017, I undertook an awareness campaign from Okanagan to Poombukar under the theme 'Let's save Cauvery'. We cannot continue to watch Cauvery, which is revered as a holy river, turn into a poisonous river.

The Cauvery decontamination project is estimated to cost a total of Rs 11,250 crore. The tamil Nadu government should take steps to get a loan from international companies while taking a part of it as a grant from the central government and another part as a contribution from the tamil Nadu government. "Tamil Nadu government should start cleaning Cauvery with its own funds without waiting for funds from the central government and international organizations," he said.
