He was arrested on 23 april 2023. Amritpal Singh contested the election as an independent candidate from Khadoor Sahib seat of Punjab.

Amritpal Singh contested the election while sitting in jail. In this election, he defeated congress candidate kuldeep Singh Jeera by 1,97,120 votes. Amritpal got 4,04,430 votes while kuldeep Singh Jeera got 2,07,310 votes. AAP candidate Laljit Singh Bhullar remained in third place.

After Amritpal Singh's victory, his mother Balwinder Kaur has also reacted. While thanking Amritpal's supporters, she has appealed to the people not to celebrate till june 6. Balwinder Kaur said that Amritpal's victory is dedicated to those who have lost their lives. Therefore, they will celebrate after june 6.
