Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police in maharashtra last week registered an FIR against a lawyer who allegedly shared YouTuber dhruv Rathee's video (Dhruv Rathee Video) criticizing prime minister Narendra Modi during the lok sabha elections in the state.

Case registered against lawyer Adesh Bansode

On May 20, advocate Adesh Bansode shared a link to dhruv Rathee's video titled 'Mind of a Dictator' on the whatsapp group of the Vasai Bar Association. The message in it read "Must watch the video before voting". Advocate Adesh Bansode is also the maharashtra secretary of the communist party of india (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. When another lawyer wrote a complaint to the police about the "objectionable" video shared by Bansode, the police took suo motu cognizance and registered an FIR on May 21. MBVV police Commissioner madhukar Pandey had issued prohibitory orders for his commissionerate between May 18 and May 20 to ensure smooth conduct of general election proceedings.

According to the FIR, "The video and its message shared by the accused makes false statements about the lok sabha election candidates and try to influence voters, thus violating the prohibitory orders of the Commissioner of Police."

Dhruv Rathee is a YouTuber, vlogger and social media activist. He is known for his YouTube videos on social, political and environmental issues. Rathee was born in haryana to a Hindu Jat family. He received his primary education in haryana before pursuing higher education in Germany.
