Why are people not getting employment?

According to different reports, most of the jobs in india are for unskilled and semi-skilled workers. In the last few years, graduated youth have data-faced a lot of difficulties in getting employment. The unemployment percentage for graduates and degree holders in india has been falling since the year 2017-18 (June-July). However, employment opportunities have also been reduced for less educated people.

Educated youth do not have jobs

A report of the year 2024 by the international Labor Organization (ILO) and the Institute for Human Development (IHD) has expressed concern about unemployment in India. According to the report, the share of unemployment among the educated youth of the country has increased. In the year 2000, 54.2 percent of educated youth in the country were unemployed. This number has increased to 65.7 percent by 2022. That means at present there are about 65.7 percent of youth who are educated but do not have a job. It has also been mentioned in the report that the number of youth leaving school after secondary education in the country has also increased in the last few years. This increasing number has been seen especially in poor states and marginalized groups. Despite increasing enrollment in higher education, quality concerns remain.

The unemployment rate is increasing, salaries are decreasing

According to the same report of the international Labor Organization, a declining trend in the salaries of regular workers and self-employed has been seen in india since 2019. Not only this, even the casual workers in the unskilled labor force have not received minimum wages since the year 2022. According to the report, the employment situation in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and chhattisgarh is quite pathetic.
