Preneet Kaur was the Union minister of State for External Affairs from 2009 to 2012 during the tenure of UPA II. She is the first woman mp to represent patiala parliamentary constituency four times. She was successful in winning the lok sabha elections in the years 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2019. In the 2014 lok sabha elections, Preneet Kaur lost the patiala lok sabha seat to Aam Aadmi Party's Dharamveer Gandhi.
