"The state cabinet has decided to implement women and Child Development minister Aditi Tatkare's historic proposal to include the mother's name in official documents and the chief minister is marking the beginning by implementing it himself," the Chief Minister's office said in a statement. "Like the father, the mother of the child also plays an important role in the upbringing of the child and the government believes that she should be given due recognition," the statement said. Apart from Deputy chief minister and senior bharatiya janata party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis, nationalist congress party (NCP) President and Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar has also symbolically changed the nameplate of his office, which mentions his mother's name. . Fadnavis's nameplate now reads 'Devendra Sarita Gangadharrao Fadnavis' while Pawar's name is written as 'Ajit Ashatai Anantrao Pawar'.
