Likewise, the central government also set up an 8-member committee headed by former President ram nath kovind to examine and make recommendations on holding simultaneous elections to the lok sabha, state legislatures, municipalities and panchayats. The committee has also sought feedback from the public and political parties.


In this situation, there are reports that the Law Commission is going to recommend the Union government to implement the One Country One election scheme in 2029. It has been reported that the Law Commission will recommend to the central government that elections to the Parliament, Legislative assembly and local bodies can be held simultaneously in 2029. It is said that the Law Commission will recommend to the central government to change the life span of the Legislative Assemblies in the next 5 years in accordance with this, and to include the one country, one election in the constitution.


Similarly, the committee headed by former President ram nath kovind is likely to make recommendations in favor of the One Country One election scheme.


The opposition parties are strongly opposing the one country one election plan. But the bjp is trying to get this done somehow. It is noteworthy that in the last election of 2014, the bjp had promised in its manifesto to develop a mechanism to hold lok sabha and Legislative assembly elections simultaneously.
