The rigging in chandigarh Mayor elections is a unique case in indian parliamentary history. Allegations of election irregularities are nothing new in the indian democratic system. In the past too, many incidents of irregularities have come to light in many elections. In the past, many of these cases even reached the high court and the supreme Court.

Many methods have been tried to rig elections. Earlier, mistakes were made secretly behind the scenes. The case of chandigarh is such that the irregularities were committed in the presence of cameras. The person who is responsible for conducting elections fairly has crossed all limits of audacity in committing this despicable act. It is the responsibility of the Presiding Officer or Returning Officer to conduct elections in a free and fair manner.
