Curfew in Banbhulpura after violence broke out

Accordingly Haldwani Civil court has issued orders to confiscate the property of nine miscreants including Abdul Malik and his son, the mastermind of the violence that took place in Banbhulpura, Haldwani on february 8. The court has given permission to the police to take action against all the accused under sections 82, 83 of CrPC. Earlier on february 13, the civil court had issued non-bailable warrant against all the nine accused.

Meanwhile on the other hand, after seven days, on Thursday, Haldwani administration has announced relaxation in curfew in Banbhulpura city for a few hours. There was tremendous violence in Banbhulpura over the demolition of an "illegal" madrasa, after which curfew was imposed in the area by the administration in view of the tension. But from today till further orders the curfew has been relaxed with some conditions. According to an order issued by nainital District Magistrate Vandana Singh, curfew will be relaxed from 9 am to 4 pm in Gaujajali, Railway Market and FCI godown areas. In the remaining areas of Banbhulpura, relaxation will be given for two hours from 9 am to 11 am.

Perhaps violence broke out in the area on february 8 after the demolition of an illegally built madrassa in Banbhulpura. local residents pelted stones and threw petrol bombs at municipal corporation personnel and police, forcing many policemen to take shelter in a police station which was later set on fire by the mob. According to the police, six people were killed in this violence and more than 100 people including police and journalists were injured. The administration has sent a notice of Rs 2.44 crore to Abdul Malik, the main accused of this violence, on charges of damaging public property.
