10 years imprisonment for cheating in government exam..!?
The central government is planning to impose a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine of Rs 1 crore. It has also decided to bring a new law for this. A bill for this has been tabled today (in Parliament). It is named as The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024. Every year on behalf of the central government, various entrance exams are conducted for the medical entrance exam NEET, engineering entrance exam JEE, QT exam conducted for arts and science colleges, Central Public service Commission (UPSC) exams for exams such as IAS, IPS, SSC, railway jobs etc.
Meanwhile, the question papers of the entrance exams for these courses are leaking and causing problems. These incidents are more common in northern states. It has been alleged that the future of deserving students is affected. The central government has brought a new bill today to prevent this. The bill was tabled in the lok sabha while it was expected to be tabled today (February 5). It is named as The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024.
What does the bill say?
It has been decided to impose a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore for anyone who willfully leaks examination papers. It is said that it will be implemented for all exams like NEET, JEE, QET, UPSC, SSC, Railway Exams. It is said that the Union cabinet has already approved this bill, and it is expected that this bill will be tabled in parliament today. According to this, those who commit the crime of leaking the examination paper will be punished with imprisonment of 3 years to 5 years. Further, it has been informed that for planned crimes, 5 to 10 years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 1 crore will be imposed. If this bill is implemented and becomes a law, it is expected that malpractices will reduce drastically.
